Structure and Features
A V-Port Ball Valve has a special design. Its hemispherical ball has a V-shaped cut on one side. By adjusting the ball’s opening, the flow area can be carefully changed. This allows precise flow management.

An O-Port Ball Valve has a solid round ball with a circular flow path. This setup causes low flow resistance. It allows a simple 90-degree turn of the ball for quick open/close action.
Key Differences Between V-Port and O-Port Ball Valves
Difference in Ball Structure

A V-Port Ball Valve uses a quarter-turn ball with a V-shaped cut on one side. It usually has single-seat sealing. Some designs use a full-sphere ball with a V-shaped port at one end. These setups allow accurate control of flow rates.
An O-Port Ball Valve has a full round bore. It uses dual-seat sealing. Its basic structure focuses on quick open/close actions. It does not aim to adjust flow.

Suitability for Different Media
V-Port Ball Valves often use metal-to-metal (hard) sealing. They are suitable for fluids with fibers, tiny particles, or thick slurries. Their self-cleaning feature stops clogs from sticky or particle-filled fluids.
O-Port Ball Valves are generally used for clean fluids or fluids with few floating particles. When sealed with PTFE seats, they achieve no leakage. But they may face issues if exposed to impurities or particles that could block the valve cavity.
Process Control Applications
Precision Flow Control with V-Port Ball Valves:Due to their V-notch design, V-Port Ball Valves offer great flow adjustment abilities. When paired with pneumatic or electric actuators, they excel in accurate flow regulation. They can also serve as on/off valves when needed.
O-Port Ball Valves in Process Systems:O-Port Ball Valves are mainly used for on/off control tasks. When equipped with an AT pneumatic piston actuator, they provide fast shut-off. However, they lack the accuracy needed for throttling.
Flow Characteristics
Variable Flow Rates in V-Port Designs: V-Port Ball Valves provide an approximate equal-percentage flow pattern. This makes them perfect for tasks needing gradual flow changes over a wide range.
Uniform Flow Path in O-Port Designs: O-Port Ball Valves show a quick-open flow pattern. This suits on/off tasks rather than flow adjustment.
