Threaded connection serves as a usual way for tiny-diameter valves (usually DN ≤ 50).
Internal thread: The valve body holds an inside thread that joins the outside thread of the pipe.
External thread: The valve body shows an outside thread which links to a pipe with inside thread or a fitting with inside thread.
Thread seal: Depends on the snug match of the threads alone, often helped by PTFE tape, sealant, and similar items.
End-face sealing: After the threaded link gets tightened, the valve port end face and fitting end face (metal or gasket) touch and seal (such as NPT taper threads) — this kind of sealing stays more dependable.
Standards: G (Rp/Rc, cylindrical pipe-thread), NPT (taper pipe-thread), R (PT, Japanese standard taper thread), etc.
Advantages: Basic build, simple to set up/remove, cheap price.
Disadvantages: Sealing trust stays fairly low; not fit for strong shaking, often taking apart, or big pressure settings.
Typical Applications: Tools, home water supply, low-pressure air, chemical lab systems.

Flange connection acts as the most common link kind in factory valves, fit for a wide span of sizes and pressure levels.
The valve body owns flanged ends on both sides, through which bolts join to matching flanges on the piping. A gasket gets placed between the flange faces to reach sealing.
Flat face (FF): The whole flange surface stays flat; good for low pressure cases, with big gasket touch area.
Raised face (RF): The flange surface holds a lifted ring; the gasket rests on it, and when bolts get tightened the gasket gets squeezed; this stays the most usual type.
Male/female face (MF): One flange owns a sticking-out ring (male), the matching flange holds a dip (female). The gasket fits in the dip; lineup stays good, gasket blow-out danger cut down.
Tongue & Groove face (T&G): One flange holds a “tongue”, the matching owns a fitting “groove”; the gasket rests in the groove. Sealing stays best; fit for high heat/high pressure/poisonous media; making stays more tricky and cost stays higher.
Ring-joint face (RJ): A ring-shaped cut gets machined on the flange face, and a metal ring gasket (e.g., octagonal or oval) gets used. Mostly for high pressure/high heat cases such as petrochemical or power plants.
Advantages: Strong link power, trusty sealing, easy taking apart and care, wide use.
Disadvantages: Big and heavy, higher price, bolt-joint leak spots exist.
Typical Applications: Nearly all factory fields—petroleum, chemical, power, water treatment, city.

Used when no leak gets allowed at all or when the pipe stuff and valve stuff must match.
Butt-weld (BW) connection: Valve ends get ready with bevels and welded straight to the pipe. Link power stays highest, sealing work great, little flow block.
Socket-weld (SW) connection: The pipe slides into the valve socket end and gets welded from outside (fillet weld). Set up easier than butt-weld, but link power and tired resist a bit lower, and root weld gap or crack may stay, easy to rust.
Advantages: Lasting link, 100% trusty sealing, tiny care (e.g., no gasket swap), fit for high heat/pressure, poisonous, burn-blast media.
Disadvantages: Tough to take apart, set up and welding need high skill, on-site hot work (fire risk) needed.
Typical Applications: High-heat, high-pressure steam piping in heat power plants; core parts in petrochemical; nuclear power; far pipelines.
Mostly used in fields with very high clean needs: food, drink, drug, biotech.
The valve ends stay special clamp ends. A clamp (or tri-clamp/three-piece clamp) or bolted union holds the valve and pipe, using a gasket of silicone or PTFE for seal.
Advantages: Very quick to take apart, easy for online clean and kill germs (CIP/SIP), no dead spots, smooth inside faces.
Disadvantages: Pressure level fairly lower, price higher.
Typical Applications: CIP/SIP systems, fermenters, filling lines, dairy, beer make lines.
Ferrule (tube‐to‐valve) connection: Used for tiny diameter tool valves and oil pressure systems. A nut squeezes a ferrule onto the tube to make the seal; set up stays easy; good sealing; fit for oil, gas systems.
Hose barb / clamp connection: Valve ends hold outside thread, and via inside/outside threaded nuts clamp a soft hose or lined tube onto the valve body. Common for lab, water treatment dosing, low pressure soft-hose links.
Connection Form | Key Advantages | Key Disadvantages | Typical Application |
Threaded | Basic, cheap, small | Sealing less trusty, not fit for shake/high pressure | Tiny diameter, low pressure, tools |
Flanged | Very flexible, trusty seal, easy care | Big/heavy, price higher, possible leak spots | Nearly all factory pipeline systems |
Welded | Best seal, high power, low care | Hard to take apart, high set skill needed | High heat/pressure, poisonous/burn, far pipelines |
Clamp / Hygienic | Very quick taking apart, clean, smooth inside face | Lower pressure level, higher price | Food, drink, drug, biotech |
When picking a valve connection type, the next points must get thought:
Pressure and heat level: For high pressure/high heat, like butt-weld or high-class flange link.
Medium traits: Media that stay poisonous, burn, ultra-clean need the best sealing link (welded, tongue & groove flange, etc.).
Set up and care needs: Does often taking apart get needed? Does space stay tight?
Cost: Think valve price, set up price, care price.
Factory rules and laws: Make sure fit with project or field-specific rules.
